BEYOND THE SIGNS OF ERASION: The indigenous presence in the province of Piauí from the 1830s to the 1850s

With the research we propose a discussion about the construction of the narrative of extermination of the indigenous population in Piauí, manufactured and resulting from the political and economic rearrangements that took place at the beginning of the 19th century. We also seek to understand how the indigenous person was represented as a character placed on the margins of what would be the History of Piauí. Furthermore, we also investigate how the municipal councils of the villages of Jaicós and São Gonçalo do Amarante, which were once villages in the near past, combined the narrative of the extermination of the Indians in order to take over indigenous territories with the political and economic field. We seek to bring indigenous themes to discussions in the field of history, relating the political and economic influences and relationships that were present in the process of constructing the discourse of extermination in Piauí. The idea came from the need to consider, from the Regency period combined with the context of national formation, the ideological, economic and political influences at the level of Piauí, paying attention to the dialogues involving the indigenous issue and the interplay of interests surrounding the land. by local political powers, also considering the issue of ethnic emergence in relation to ethnic transfiguration and the caboclo category. We tend to consider the process of ethnic emergence, starting from the premise of the construction and representation of indigenous identity, once considered extinct in Piauí in the 19th century.
