SUMMARY:

The present research is interdisciplinary in nature, engaging with different areas of knowledge, especially Education, Sociology, and Social Work. The object of study is the Student Assistance actions of UESPI, an important Higher Education Institution in Piauí. The problem-question sought to be answered is: which Student Assistance programs were developed at UESPI from 2022 to 2023 and how did they contribute to the retention of undergraduate students? Consequently, the research aims to analyze the Student Assistance programs of UESPI and their contributions to the retention of undergraduate students. To do so, the Student Assistance programs adopted by UESPI from 2022 to 2023 will be investigated, examining the perception of students, teachers, and managers about the university's programs, as well as examining the scope of the institution's Student Assistance actions, checking the target audience assisted. The methodology to be used is a qualitative approach and will adopt bibliographic, documentary, and field research, using as data production instruments bibliographic studies of authors and researchers on the subject, as well as laws and documents, and semi-structured interviews with key subjects in the educational process of UESPI. It is intended to interview 6 students, 2 teachers, and 2 managers from the State University of Piauí who were present at the institution between 2022 and 2023. The selection of subjects will follow some criteria: for managers and teachers, both must have participated in the institution for at least three years, including the studied period; be from the Torquato Neto Campus and agree to contribute to the research. For students: three must have benefited from some assistance program of the institution between 2022 and 2023 and three should not have participated in assistance programs, but must have had an active enrollment during the respective time frame. For teachers: both must have participated or be members of the teachers' union. For managers, there are no additional restrictions.
