Introduction: The historical context of Physical Education as a curricular component of
Basic Education shows how challenging it was for it to win its “place” (at least,
as a subject) in the school curriculum. Such is the prerogative of School Physical Education, to have its
place in the school space always influenced by the movements of society in constant
transformation. Although it has legitimate backing (Law No. 10.328/2001), with regard to the
“compulsory” physical education classes at all levels of basic education, its ‘place’ is always being
always being threatened by state education policies. A recent example is the
changes resulting from the implementation of the New High School in the country, which culminated in an
