SUMMARY:

Physical Education is currently a compulsory curriculum component of basic education, responsible for thematizing the body culture of movement, such as: games and play, dance, wrestling, sports, gymnastics and adventurous body practices. That's why all students need to take advantage of this range of content and benefits that can be provided by this curricular component. However, some of the students have stopped taking part in Physical Education classes, specifically involving bodily practices. The aims of this research are: to identify the reasons why female students drop out of high school physical education classes, based on the perceptions of teachers and students; to discuss the dropout of female students from high school physical education classes; and to reflect on possible interventions to tackle the problem in physical education classes in the city of Oeiras/PI. The methodology involves descriptive field research of a quantitative/qualitative nature, using a closed questionnaire to obtain data from the students and a questionnaire with open questions to obtain information from the teachers.
