ANTI-RACIST EDUCATION IN THE CURRICULUM OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN TERESINA

SUMMARY:

This summary intends to present part of an ongoing research that aims to investigate whether the official curriculum of the Municipal Secretariat of Education and Culture of Teresina, delivered to schools in 2008 (SEMEC, 2008), addresses issues involving relationships ethnic-racial and anti-racist education, within its text, where it develops skills and content listed and organized by two months in each school year. Its title is “Anti-Racist Education in the Teresina Early Childhood Education Curriculum”. How is anti-racist education developed in early childhood education institutions in the Teresina municipal education system, having as its legal basis laws 10.639/2003, which deals with the Education of ethnic-racial relations and Law 11.645/2008, which deals with mandatory teaching indigenous history and culture in formal education?” And in order to answer this question, we will have the general objective: to analyze how anti-racist education occurs in early childhood education institutions in the Teresina municipal education system through the teaching of content that meets the guidelines of Law 10,639/2003 and Law 11,645/2008. And as specific objectives: verify the legislation pertinent to the inclusion in the curriculum of contents that deal with anti-racist education through the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and indigenous culture, within the scope of early childhood education institutions in the Teresina municipal education system; identify references to Laws 10,639/2003 and 11,645/2008, in the didactic-pedagogical curricular documents prepared by the Municipal Secretariat of Education and Culture of Teresina (SEMEC); and understand how pedagogical practices that address anti-racist education are implemented through the teaching of content in accordance with Laws 10,639/2003, and 11,645/2008 in early childhood education institutions of the Teresina municipal education system.The methodology that we intend to apply, as it involves dialogues with educators who work in early childhood education schools, will be qualitative and quantitative, as it will involve semi-structured interviews and conversation circles, as Gil (2002) details, given the need to collect information among which the perception of these teachers regarding concepts such as prejudice, racism and anti-racist actions in their daily pedagogical practices. Despite not being an innovative theme, as this theme has been the focus of several researches since the beginning of this century, the fact that we focus on a didactic apparatus, At this moment the research continues in a conclusive phase of theoretical structuring regarding some concepts such as curriculum, culture , racism and early childhood education, supported by the writings of Gomes (2010), Sacritãn (2013) and Cardoso (2022).
